About MMA

Our philosophy

It is Munster Music Academy’s mission to kindle a lifelong interest in music and nourish each student's potential and personality as they explore and discover their musical identity. Our team of thirteen highly experienced teachers are leading Irish and international professional musicians who combine active performing careers with educating and inspiring musicians across the generations to fulfil their musical ambitions and dreams.

If you want to make the most of your musical ability, we are here to support you. We are committed to nurturing potential and offer a warm, creative, yet focused environment in Killaloe and on our new digital music academy platform. Music can help children to think more creatively, develop craftsmanship and discipline, and learn the value of excellence. We encourage our students to aim for high standards and commitment whilst providing the environment for them to form lasting friendships with like-minded peers.

Munster Music Digital Academy

We are delighted to introduce the innovative and dynamic Munster Music Digital Academy. You can live in Tipperary, Taiwan or Turkey and learn online with our international team of dedicated, sensitive, and highly experienced teachers from the comfort of your own home. Our teachers are geographically based in Ireland and Hungary and can teach in English, Portuguese, French, Hungarian, and Italian.

We currently have students dotted around the globe taking weekly online lessons from Clare, Limerick, Dublin, Australia, India, and Tanzania. The seed for Munster Music Digital Academy was planted in a vegan cafe in Ubud, Bali in January 2020. Founder Tara-Lee sat cross-legged on a hemp yoga cushion sipping a fresh coconut flailing her arms mimicking different bow speeds teaching Bach to Max, her 11-year-old grade 3 cello student online at his home in Ireland.

She observed with great curiosity and delight as Max explored her suggestions gaining clarity and confidence bow by bow, note by note. Light-bulb moment = Music lessons can be taught successfully without being in the same room as the student. In March 2020, the global pandemic shifted everyone to online learning including all our students and teachers in Killaloe. Fast forward 3,800 Zoom music lessons and we have fine-tuned and adapted our music lessons to be effectively and efficiently delivered online.

Our passionate teachers and enthusiastic students have grown musically and technologically side-by-side, lesson-by-lesson. As educators, we have expanded our teaching skillset, deepened our awareness of 'how it feels for the student', explored and developed new online teaching approaches, and integrated our new practices, providing a truly holistic online learning experience for students of all ages, abilities, and aspirations.

We have limited spaces available for online lessons. Enquire here for availability.

MY SONS HAVE LOVED LEARNING WITH MUNSTER MUSIC ACADEMY SINCE IT STARTED IN KILLALOE 12 YEARS AGO. THROUGHOUT THESE YEARS THE DEDICATION OF TARA-LEE AND HER TEAM OF WONDERFUL TEACHERS HAS ALWAYS BEEN EVIDENT. THEY HAVE INSPIRED A LOVE OF MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE IN ALL OF THEIR STUDENTS AND IT IS INSPIRATIONAL TO SEE STUDENTS PROGRESS AND DEVELOP AS MUSICIANS WITH EXCELLENT GUIDANCE
— Elaine McKeogh
I find it overwhelming the commitment, interest and dedication of Tara-Lee and all teachers to the students and the whole learning process, and I am very grateful my daughter has been doing the classes with Sarah. It has really helped boost her confidence not to mention honing her singing talents. It has truly been so positive all round
— caroline rice
EXPERT TEACHERS WHO GIVE 100% TO STUDENTS, INCLUDING PARENTS IN THE PROCESS THROUGH PARENTAL MEETINGS AND CONCERTS, WHICH ARE VERY ENJOYABLE
— Anne Delaney
MMA ARE AMAZING, LOVED THE ONLINE CONCERTS & IT IS GREAT TO SEE SUCH BUDDING TALENT. THE SCHOOL TAKES SUCH PRIDE & INTEREST IN THE KIDS REGARDLESS OF TALENT & ABILITY AND THE TEACHINGS ARE ADAPTED TO SUIT EACH AND EVERY STUDENT. IT CREATES A LOVELY HOMELY, KIND, CREATIVE & SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR CHILDREN
— Sharon O'Donovan
IT IS A WONDERFUL HOLISTIC EXPERIENCE WITH GREAT FEEDBACK AND LOOKS TO THE WHOLE MUSICAL EXPERIENCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD
— Nigel Mckenna
MMA and Natalie have been wonderful teaching my daughter Ailíse to learn to play the piano. She has loved all of it from the beginning learning her notes up to now doing exams. The one to one lessons tailored to her needs are excellent and we have seen her improve so much in her piano playing. Tara-Lee's commitment has also been super with the end of term concerts and especially this last year with her bonus boot camps which really helped prepare everyone for their exams
